V Altibox Norway Chess en Stavanger
En unos pocos años, el torneo Altibox Norway Chess se ha convertido en uno de los acontecimientos más importantes del mundo del ajedrez, que cuenta con la participación de los jugadores de la absoluta elite mundial. No solo atraer a los mejores jugadores del mundo, sino que también ejerce de imán para ilustres visitantes e invitados especiales como, por ejemplo, Garry Kasparov. Entre el 5 y el 17 de junio de 2017, se disputa la quinta edición del gran evento del ajedrez nórdico, de nuevo con la flor y nata del ajedrez mundial: Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Vladimir Kramnik, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Vishy Anand, Levon Aronian, Hikaru Nakamura, Sergey Karjakin y Anish Giri.

Por si la honrilla no fuese suficiente aliciente, los 5 primeros tienen una partida más con blancas en la competición a 9 rondas. Magnus Carlsen fue mejor. Empezó el torneo con dos empates, pero luego dominó sin paliativos, con su típico estilo: jugaba aperturas aparentemente sin pretensiones y a veces de forma poco ortodoxa, para luego ir aumentando la presión y exprimiento a los rivales en el mediojuego y en el final. Al final sumó 7,5 puntos de los 9 posibles. Los otros 4 ajedrecistas que conducirán 5 veces las blancas son Hikaru Nakamura, Levon Aronian, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave y Vladimir Kramnik.
