Justamente eso mismo fue lo que ocurrió antes de ayer por la tarde sobre la avenida República en la ciudad de Asunción. Reportaje ilustrado por Yamil Duba...

La Academia de Ajedrez Élite, dirigida por el FM Édgar Espinoza (2251), organizó el segundo Torneo Abierto Congreso Nacional con la participación de 7 grandes maestros y 3 maestros internacionales, entre ellos: Axel Bachmann con sus 2630 puntos Elo a cuestas, el flamante campeón del Zonal 2.5 Sandro Mareco (2581), el campeón del Torneo de Maestros Paraguayos Neuris Delgado (2592) y el actual campeón mundial sub-16 Alan Pichot (2504) 78 jugadores se reunieron en la entrada orincipal del lujoso edificio gubernamental para competir por los 600 dólares norteamericanos que correspondían al primer premio. Las primeras tres rondas de este suizo se jugaron a un ritmo de 5 minutos con 3 segundos de incremento y las últimas cuatro con 10 minutos en el reloj más 2 segundos de incremento.
Culminada la séptima y última ronda 4 ajedrecistas lideraban la tabla con 6 puntos: Pichot, el GM José Cubas (2467), Delgado y Mareco. Finalmente, fue el primero quien se adjudicó el torneo por mejor desempate. En una tarde cargada de Ajedrez, los aficionados tuvieron la oportunidad de medirse a sus ídolos y vivir un día inolvidable.
