30/11/2023 – Entre el 27 de noviembre y el 6 de diciembre se disputa un torneo magistral el "Alef Superstars", en Sharjah, Emirates Árabes Unidos. Entre los participantes están Yu Yangyi, Sanan Sjugirov, Nihal Sarin y Saleh Salem first. El torneo se disputa por sistema de liga, a doble vuelta, en las modalidades de ajedrez clásico, rápido y relámpago, respectivamente. Tras las primeras tres rondas de ajedrez clásico manda Yu Yangyi con 15/18 puntos (porque los puntos de las partidas clásicas cuentan más que en las de ajedrez rápido y relámpago). Ajedrez clásico: victorias 6 puntos, empates 3 puntos, derrotas cero puntos. El ritmo es de 90 minutos por 40 movimientos, más 30 minutos con un incremento de 30 segundos por movimiento, a partir del primer movimiento.
Ajedrez rápido: victorias 4 puntos, empates 2 puntos, derrotas cero puntos. Ritmo de juego: 15 minutos, más 10 segundos de incremento por movimiento.
Ajedrez relámpago: victorias 2 puntos, empates un punto, derrotas cero puntos. Ritmo de juego: 3 minutos, más 2 segundos de incremento por movimiento.
La media de puntuación de los cuatro participantes asciende a unos muy respetables 2688. A los experimentados Yu Yangyi (29 años), Sanan Sjugirov (30) y Saleh Salem (30) se les une el prodigio indio de 19 años Nihal Sarin en este evento dotado con 15.000 dólares (el ganador se llevará 6.000).
Los cuatro jugadores pertenecen al a veces descuidado grupo de grandes maestros muy fuertes (cercanos a la marca de los 2700 puntos de rating) que rara vez reciben invitaciones para participar en eventos cerrados.
También es destacable el hecho de que los organizadores hayan invitado a jugadores extranjeros de tres países diferentes para enfrentarse al héroe local Salem, el menos favorecido por rating en el campo. Mientras que Yu y Nihal son nombres conocidos en China e India respectivamente, el ruso Sjugirov representa a Hungría desde agosto de 2023.
