Copa de América 2024

La Copa de América incluye a algunos de los mejores jugadores estadounidenses, entre ellos el número 2 del mundo, Fabiano Caruana. Caruana competirá en el Torneo de Candidatos de 2024 y aspira al codiciado puesto de aspirante al título mundial. Por otra parte, será interesante volver a ver an acción a la GM Irina Krush, figura destacada del ajedrez estadounidense, con ocho títulos del Campeonato Femenino de Estados Unidos y dos victorias en la Copa América. ¿Podrá repetir la hazaña otra vez más? La Copa de América disputará del 12 al 21 de marzo de 2024, en el Salón de la Fama del Ajedrez de América, en San Luis (EE. UU.)
Ambos torneos se disputarán con el formato de doble eliminación, lo que significa que quien pierda un duelo, recibirá una segunda oportunidad en el grupo de consolación (cuadro de eliminación). En esta ocasión, el escenario será el Hall of Fame de Saint Louis.

Control de tiempo
El control de tiempo clásico será de 90 minutos, más 30 segundos de incremento a partir del primer movimiento (G/90+30).
El control de tiempo de ajedrez rápido será de 15 minutos, más 10 segundos de incremento, a partir del primer movimiento (G/15+10).
El ritmo de juego para los duelos playoff será de tres minutos, más dos segundos de incremento, a partir del primer movimiento (G/3+2).
En el cuadro de campeonato, cada encuentro constará de cuatro partidas, dos clásicas y dos rápidas.
En la fase de eliminación, cada encuentro constará de cuatro partidas rápidas.
En las eliminatorias, los jugadores disputarán un encuentro de ajedrez relámpago, a dos partidas. Si el encuentro terminase en empate, los jugadores repetirán este proceso hasta que se haya determinado al ganador.
Si el partido 14 (ganador del cuadro de campeones, contra ganador del cuadro de perdedores) da como resultado un duelo perdido por jugador, los dos jugadores disputarán un duelo a cuatro partidas räapidas, seguido de partidos de desempate (de ser necesario).
Programa
La bolsa global de premios asciende a 400.000 dólares estadounidenses (cuatrocientos mil dólares estadounidenses), 250.000 dólares estadounidenses en el torneo abierto y 150.000 dólares estadounidenses en el torneo femenino). El primer premio del torneo abierto es de 75.000 dólares estadounidenses, el del torneo femenino de 40.000 dólares estadounidenses.
