22/03/2022 – El gran maestro Sergei Nikolayevich Tiviakov nació en Krasnodar, Rusia (todavía era parte de la Unión Soviética) el 14 de febrero de 1973. Aprendió a jugar al ajedrez a los 5 años. "Había encontrado un libro de ajedrez en casa y me interesó mucho. Así que mis padres me enviaron a una escuela de ajedrez en Krasnodar". Comenzó a asistir a la escuela del ex-campeón mundial Vasily Smyslov y en poco tiempo logró su primer éxito significativo a finales de la década de 1980. A la edad de dieciséis años, Sergei logró convertirse en campeón de la Unión Soviética Sub-16. Como junior, ganó los campeonatos mundiales en las categorías sub-16 y sub-18. En 1994, Sergei Tiviakov ganó el segundo lugar en el súper torneo de Wijk aan Zee. Sergei recibió una invitación para el equipo ruso, que debía actuar como local en la cita olímpica realizada en Moscú. El equipo ruso se coronó campeón y Tiviakov se desempeñó con éxito 6.5/9. Sus mayores éxitos, además del oro con la selección rusa fueron: el título de Campeón Individual de Europa, en 2008. En 2001 y 2005 ganó los títulos del Campeonato de Europa por equipos con la selección holandesa.
Sergei está entre los jugadores con más partidas sin perder en toda la historia del ajedrez. Jugó 110 partidas a ritmo clásico sin perder ninguna (el récord lo batió Carlsen recientemente).
Desde 1997, Tiviakov vive en Groningen, Holanda. Ya es triple campeón holandés (ahora Países Bajos), ganó en 2006, 2007 y 2018. Su elo más alto fue 2699 puntos.
