Ronda 4. El club cántabro será casi campeón si gana hoy a Gros
Es interesante conversar con los capitanes de los equipos y observarlos en el comedor del hotel o en la sala de juego estos días en Linares; cada uno tiene sus métodos de terapia psicológica tras el éxito y el fracaso. Todo indica que los de Jesús Quevedo, el del Solvay, son muy acertados porque todos los miembros del cuadro de Torrelavega (Cantabria) están aportando mucho; quien peor había puntuado en las tres rondas anteriores era Ubilava, pero ayer tumbó al flamante campeón de España, Salgado, después de que los tres primeros tableros del Solvay (Nisipeanu, Negi y Gánguly) repartieran el punto con rivales que están entre los veinte mejores del mundo (Leinier Domínguez, Giri y Vachier Lagrave, respectivamente); y, sobre todo, luego de la brillante victoria de Délchev sobre Edouard; con el triunfo ya garantizado, De la Villa y Romero firmaron el empate tras más de cinco horas de lucha.

Sin embargo, la racha triunfal del Solvay puede no ser suficiente para lograr el título si hoy cae ante el Gros, cuyos dos primeros tableros (Bacrot y Van Wely) son, en teoría, más fuertes, si bien es cierto que en los otros cuatro (Bauer, Franco, Santi González y Argandoña) ocurre lo contrario. El equipo donostiarra fue ayer muy contundente (5-1) para superar al Ajedrez con Cabeza-VTI Atocha. Una vez más, David Antón dio una impresión muy favorable en el primer tablero a pesar de la derrota, en este caso ante Naiditsch, quien necesitó más de cinco horas para doblegar al juvenil madrileño.

La quinta ronda incluye otro encuentro de gran interés entre Sestao y Enracha-SC Colón, que ayer no pudo pasar del empate con el Equigoma-Casa Social Católica, de Ávila; un día después de malograr una joya frente a Moskalenko, Vallejo firmó una victoria inapelable contra Iturrizaga, pero los cuatro empates en los tableros 1, 3, 4 y 5 no bastaron porque Corral doblegó a Oms ¡tras 130 movimientos! Si el fuerte equipo vallesano provoca un nuevo tropiezo del vizcaíno, el Solvay seguiría siendo el claro favorito aunque perdiese ante el Gros, porque sus dos últimos rivales serán Mágic Extremadura y Atocha.

Aún más dramático será el enfrentamiento Mágic-Atocha. Tras la abultada victoria (5-1) del club extremeño sobre el Escola d’Escacs de Barcelona, un empate le bastará para asegurar su permanencia y condenar a sus rivales de ayer y hoy al descenso, salvo carambolas muy improbables.
La doble ronda volvió a ser negativa para las españolas en el Ciudad de Linares, aunque Yudania Hernández ganó a la francesa Milliet, y Ana Matnadze superó a Laura Collado por la mañana y empató con Yudania por la tarde. Las cinco ocupan los cinco últimos puestos, mientras las cinco extranjeras, separadas por sólo medio punto, lucharán por el primero puesto en las tres últimas rondas.
