16/09/2019 – Ayer se disputaron los duelos de desemapte de la segunda ronda eliminatoria de la Copa del Mundo. En esta ocasión, por primera vez, uno de los quince duelos de desempate llegó hasta la partida "a todo y nada". Anish Giri y Evgeny Najer habían dejado el marcador igualado tras ocho partidas. Giri jugó con negras y ganó el duelo a todo o nada y se ha clasificado para la próxima fase eliminatoria. Por otra parte Daniil Yuff eliminó a Luke McShane y por lo demás se clasificaron aquellos jugadores que se considerarían los favoritos en los duelos, respectivamente, por ejemplo, ng Liren, Leinier Dominguez, Alexander Grischuk, Teimour Radjabov, Yu Yangyi, Peter Svidler, Nikita Vitiugov, Wei Yi y Jeffery Xiong. | Foto: FIDE

Además, Kirill Alekseenko eliminó al noruego Johan-Sebastian Christiansen y Maxim Matlakov ganó el duelo contra Boris Gelfand.
