Peter Heine Nielsen posiblemente es uno de los entrenadores de ajedrez más exitoso de todos los tiempos en los duelos por el campeonato del mundo. Entre los años 2002 y 2012 el gran maestro danés trabajaba como entrenador y asistente de Vishy Anand. Y desde el año 2013 ha apoyado a Magnus Carlsen.
A lo largo de las colaboraciones primero con Anand y luego con Carlsen, Nielsen ha "ganado" (con ellos) ocho campeonatos del mundo: cuatro con Anand (2007, 2008, 2010 und 2012) y otros cuatro con Carlsen (2014, 2016, 2018 y 2021).
