04/06/2020 – A no ser que haya desarrollos negativos que lo impidan, está previsto llevar a cabo la quincuagésima tercera edición del Festival de Ajedrez de Biel entre el 18 y el 29 de julio de este mismo año. Los organizadores han publicado un comunicado de prensa, informando que están preparando el torneo principal Magistral de Biel y un torneo abierto para aficionados con un número de participantes limitado. Asímismo está previsto disputar el torneo juvenil, incluyendo los campeonatos juveniles de Suiza que previamente habían sido aplazados por el coronavirus. 53° Torneo Internacional de Biel 2020
Del 18 al 29 de julio de 2020, en Biel (Suiza)
Teniendo en cuenta as restricciones actuales por el coronavirus, los organizadores del Festival Internacional de Ajedrez de Bieln están elaborando un concepto de protección que debería permitir la realización de la 53º edición el próximo mes de julio.
Eso sí, se ha decidido cancelar el Abierto Masters (MTO), las competiciones de ajedrez rápido, blitz y Fischer, y también el torneo de simultáneas.
El comité organizador tiene como objetivo llevar a cabo el Magistral de Biel con ocho participantes tal y como estaba previsto, en forma de una triatlón. Habrá que realizar algunos ajustes, debido a las actuales restricciones de viajes para los participantes.
Está previsto disputar "Torneo Corona para Aficionados" (C-HTO) que sustituirá a los dos tradicionales torneos abiertos.
Paul Kohler, organizador del torneo, explicó:
"La idea es que cada jugador tenga delante su propio tablero con sus propias piezas y estará sentado con la debida distancia en la misma mesa que su oponente".
El número de participantes será limitado. En cuanto se conozca la cantidad de participantes permitidos, se comunicará y los participantes podrán realizar el pago de la cuota de inscripciones por transferencia bancaria.

Está previsto también disputar el torneo juvenil "Vinetum" y además se jugarán los Campeonatos Juveniles de Suiza en las categorías sub-16, sub-14, sub-12 y sub-10 durante 4 días, que previamente habían sido suspendidos por el coronavirus.
El presidente del comité organizador Peter Bohnenblust comentó:
"Nos gustaría ayudar a devolverle a nuestro deporte del ajedrez el formato preferido que tiene, el de las partidas presenciales, siempre respetando y teniendo en cuenta las restricciones debidas actuales necesarias por el coronvirus".
