Alexander Grischuk, por su parte, entró en apuros en una Defensa Berlinesa contra Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Esta tarde en la segunda partida de las semifinales, Grischuk y So van a jugar con blancas. El segundo torneo de la serie del Grand Prix de la FIDE, un torneo por eliminación entre 16 jugadores, tiene un fondo de premios de €130.000, mientras que la serie en su totalidad entregará €280.000 adicionales, además de otorgar la clasificación al Torneo de Candidatos de 2020. Ian Nepomniachtchi ganó la primera etapa en Moscú.
