18/07/2019 – Alexander Grischuk y Shakhriyar Mamedyarov eleminaron a Yu Yangyi y a Jan-Krzysztof Duda, respectivamente en las dos primeras partidas de los duelos de desempate de los cuartos de final del Grand Prix de la FIDE en Riga. El duelo entre Sergey Karjakin y Wesley So brindó empates tanto en las partidas al ritmo de 25'+10" como en las de 10'+10". Finalmente, Wesley So se impuso en la partida de 5 minutos más 3 segundos de incremento y a continuación se salvó en cuello en la segunda partida con ese ritmo para así clasificarse para las semifinales. Grand Prix de la FIDE en Riga 2019
El segundo torneo de la serie del Grand Prix de la FIDE, un torneo por eliminación entre 16 jugadores, tiene un fondo de premios de €130.000, mientras que la serie en su totalidad entregará €280.000 adicionales, además de otorgar la clasificación al Torneo de Candidatos de 2020.
