Al parecer está de moda eso de sacrificar un peón para igualar cuando las negras recuperan material. Tomashevsky lo puso en práctica con éxito en su partida contra Gelfand. Quizás Boris tenía una minúscula ventaja al final de la partida, pero el duelo concluyó en tablas.

Jobava es ese tipo de jugador que puede estar "clínicamente muerto" en un torneo, pero que nunca pierde el ánimo a pesar de eso. Tiene una fuerza mental tremenda y puede ser peligroso en cualquier momento. Domínguez, que hasta ahora marchaba igualado en la primera posición , sufrió una dolorosa derrota a manos del georgiano.

Una partida un tanto complicada. Grischuk tenía la mejor posición durante toda la partida. La estructura de sus piezas era más flexible y tenía las mejores posibilidades para abrir el centro, además su caballo en b6 era francamente molesto para Giri. Incluso en la posición final, Grischuk tenía mejores posibilidades, pero aún así los dos jugadores optaron por firmar las tablas.

¡Otra partida con la Dragón! Desafortunadamente hubo mucho intercambio de material en la partida de hoy y después de que Caruana "sacrificase" un alfil (no se podía haber comido porque entonces el rey de Nakamura habría quedado expuesto al peligro de manera demasiado seria), Nakamura se vengó al tomar el peón en h2 que tenía pinta de estar envenenado. Una partida excelente por parte de Jakovenko. Primero, a coste de la estructura de sus piezas, ganó la pareja de alfiles. Eso le dio un importante control sobre las casillas negras, lo que resultó todavía más importante cuando su alfil aterrizó en d6. De repente, la dama negra quedó atrapada en el centro del tablero, pero Karjakin obtuvo una torre, un caballo y un peón como compensación. Jakovenko jugó por ambos flancos e intentó abrirse paso en la fortaleza de Karjakin. Finalmente lo consiguió y, tras una larga batalla, con errores y apuros de tiempo por parte de ambos jugadores, la partida concluyó con la victoria de Jakovenko.
En el caso de que Jakovenko consigua vencer a Nakamura en la última partida, se clasificará para el torneo de Candidatos
