15/02/2024 – La ceremonia de entrega de la antorcha de la 45ª Olimpiada de Ajedrez marcó el inicio de la celebración del centenario de la FIDE, que durará un año. La antorcha de la Olimpiada de Ajedrez 2024 viajará por todo el mundo. Ha comenzado su viaje en Nueva Delhi,India. Los portadores universales de la antorcha del ajedrez, Vishy Anand y Judit Polgar, estuvieron presentes en el acto, al igual que Arkady Dvorkovich, Presidente de la FIDE, Dana-Reizniece Ozola, Vicepresidenta de la FIDE, Anurag Thakur, Ministro de Información y Radiodifusión y de Juventud y Deportes de la Unión, el Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Presidente de la AICF, A K Verma, Secretario Interino de la AICF, Bharat Singh Chauhan, Presidente del Consejo Asesor de la FIDE, y varios otros funcionarios estuvieron presentes. La antorcha de la Olimpiada de Ajedrez inicia su viaje desde Nueva Delhi
El miércoles 14 de febrero de 2024 tuvo lugar la ceremonia de entrega de la antorcha de la 45ª Olimpiada de Ajedrez en el Estadio Nacional Major Dhyanchand de Nueva Delhi. El acto, que contó con actuaciones culturales y diversas actividades relacionadas con el ajedrez, fue testigo del encendido de la antorcha por parte del Ministro de Deportes de la India, Anurag Thakur.

El Ministro de Información y Radiodifusión y de Juventud y Deportes, Anurag Thakur, encendió la antorcha ceremonial que marca el inicio del 'Relevo de la Antorcha de Ajedrez'.
El discurso del Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Presidente de la Federación Panindia de Ajedrez, puso de relieve la importancia de la antorcha:
“Hoy, cuando la antorcha emprende su viaje de la India a Budapest, recordemos que simboliza la unidad y la camaradería que definen a nuestra familia ajedrecística mundial. Y los valores que representa: perseverancia, determinación y los inquebrantables lazos que nos unen. Juntos, encendamos las llamas de la inspiración y la pasión por el ajedrez, y que ardan con fuerza durante generaciones.”

El Presidente de la FIDE, Arkady Dvorkovich, en su discurso subrayó aún más la naturaleza global y unificadora del ajedrez, afirmando que:
"Tengo la firme convicción, y nuestra visión conjunta en la FIDE, de que el ajedrez no es sólo un juego o un deporte, sino una enorme herramienta para mejorar nuestra sociedad".
