Los participantes del torneo Tashir Memorial Petrosian que se disputó en Moscú, han viajado prácticamente todos a Sochi, para disputar el Memorial Tal en la modalidad de partidas de ajedrez relámpago. Los único jugadores del Memorial Petrosian que no han acudido son Aronian y Ding Liren. Los participantes del Memorial Tal en Sochi son: Evgeny Tomashevsky, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Peter Svidler, Sergey Karjakin y como única jugadora femenina, Alexandra Kosteniuk.
El torneo se llevará a cabo en dos jornadas (la primera fue hoy). La bolsa de premios asciende a 100.000 dólares, de los cuales 20.000 son para el ganador.
