Fue un día de vaivenes y al final son siete jugadores que se han colocado en la cima de la clasificación con 7,5/10 puntos, a falta de la última jornada de partidas rápidas. El campeonato de ajedrez rápido con secciones absoluta y femenina, se disputará del 26 al 28 de diciembre de 2018. A continuación, los días 29 y 30 se disputará el Campeonato del Mundo de Ajedrez Relámpago. Está en juego una bolsa de premios de 1.000.000 en total.

Sección absoluta - rápidas
Tras el susto inicial el primer día de partidas rápidas anteayer cuando Magnus Carlsen había perdido las dos partidas iniciales del mundial de rápidas, ayer en la segunda jornada comenzó con una fuerte partida frente a Ivan Salgado. Sin embargo, el cielo se le volvió a nublar cuando sufrió una derrota en la segunda partida, contra Alexander Zubov. Aún así y on en aquel momento dos puntos de desventaja por detrás de los líderes, Carlsen mantenía la cabeza enfriada y se apuntó tres victorias consecutivas en las próximas tres partidas.
Para los demás jugadores que encabezaban la clasificación la segunda jornada también fue un día de vaivenes. Al final de la segunda jornada quedaban siete jugadores encabezando la clasificación, es decir, casi todo sigue siendo posible.
