Nos ha entristado profundamente la trágica noticia del fallecimiento de la MIF Sue Maroroa Jones, el jueves 11 de mayo, poco después de dar a luz a su segundo hijo, Daniel.
Sue era una ajedrecista muy fuerte, que logró título MIF y que formaba parte del equipo nacional de Nueva Zelanda en cinco olimpiadas de ajedrez, entre 2002 y 2010. A continuación jugaba con el equipo olímpico de Inglaterra en la olimpiada de 2014.
Tras haberse casado con el GM Gawain Jones, la pareja se instaló en Sheffield, y Sue continauba jugando al ajedrez en las competiciones de más alto nivel, incluida su participación en las olimpiadas, además de jugar regularmente en la 4NCL, donde formó parte del equipo Chessable White Rose. Logró una norma de MI en sus partidas en la 4NCL en 2014 (incluida una victoria contra el GM Mark Hebden) y obtuvo un impresionante 6 de 9 en el Abierto de Rejkyavik de 2019.
