Originalmente, Vladimir Kramnik iba a jugar en Stavanger, pero debido a problemas con las fechas, Kramnik rogó a los organizadores que le permitieran retirarse del torneo. En su lugar va a jugar Peter Svidler. Los problemas de agenda de Kramnik se deben a que del 14 al 24 de junio se jugará el Memorial Tal en Moscú y le parecía demasiado apretado participar en ambos torneos. En el Memorial Tal aparte de Kramnik jugarán Carlsen, Anand, Caruana, Nakamura, Morozevich, Gelfand y Mamedyarov.
