Anish Giri y Li Chao son los únicos jugadores que quedan con el marcador perfecto de 3/3 puntos. En su partida contra el gran maestro polaco Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Anish Giri alcanzó una de sus posiciones favoritas: una ligera ventaja en un final que conduce a puerto seguro, disfrutando del viaje. Li Chao fue el primero que llegó al resultado de tres victorias en tres rondas. Aplastó al fuerte GM indio Sethuruman en una masacre que tan solo duró 26 movimientos. El indio jugó un gambito de Dama aceptado con poca maña y se le torcieron las cosas hasta que se llegó a derrumbar por completo.
El Campeón del Mundo Magnus Carlsen se vio las caras con Daniil Yuffa (2504 FIDE), quien había derrotado a Bologan al día anterior. Pero el noruego estaba en forma y se alzó con la victoria en 27 movimientos.

La partida más larga (y más absurda) del día fue el encuentor entre Sopiko Guramishvili y el MI alemán Roven Vogel. El alemán se quedaba con tan solo dos piezas sobre el tablero en el movimiento 66 y no tenía ninguna posibilidad de ganar la partida. Sopiko le persiguió por todo el tablero y capturó un peón trás otro hasta dar jaque y mate al rey de Vogel ¡50 movimientos más adelante! con su torre, alfil y caballo.
