17/01/2018 – Entre el 9 y el 16 de enero se disputó el XVI Abierto Internacional de Nueva Delhi (India). Tras 10 rondas de competición, se coronó campeón el gran maestro de origen alemán Arkadij Naiditsch que juega con bandera de Azerbayán. Sumó 8,5/10 puntos. En los puestos 2, 3 y 4 se ubicaron Ziaur Rahman (Bangladesh), Nubairshah Shaik Mohammad (India) y Adam Horvath (Hungría) con 8/10 puntos. Nubairshah Shaikh además logró una norma de gran maestro. El XVI Magistral Abierto Internacional se disputó en el estadio polideportivo Indira Gandhi, en Nueva Delhi. El festival contó con varios torneos abiertos. La bolsa de premios asciende a 77,77,777/-. rupias.
Se han apuntado más de 2000 apasionados del ajedrez de toda India y también participaron jugadores de otros 29 países, con lo cual también se superó a la cantidad del año pasado.
