Cuando conseguir dos damas ya no es suficiente
Ocurrió en la penúltima ronda de la Copa Cairns. Anna Zatonskih encabezaba la clasificación con 4½ puntos. Bela Khotenashvili, que había perdido las dos primeras partidas, venía de ganar cuatro partidas consecutivas y se había situado a medio punto en la segunda posición por detrás de Zatonskyi. Alexandra Kosteniuk acababa de perder contra Nana Dzagnidze y parecía estar fuera de la lucha por los primeros puestos, ya que únicamente había sumado tres puntos.
Zatonskih jugaba blancas contra Zhansaya Abdumalik, que estaba en baja forma. Kosteniuk jugaba blancas contra Khotenashvili, que estaba en muy buena forma.
Al final, tanto Zatonskih como Kosteniuk se anotaron victorias en sus respetivas partidas.
Zatonskih aprovechó al máximo una pequeña ventaja en el final de la partida, Kosteniuk se impuso en una lucha táctica increíblemente aguda.
Ya en una posición ganadora, la gran maestra (desde hace poco) suiza, Kosteniuk, coronó dama su peón b (la segunda) dama -en el otro lado del tablero, habían pasado cuatro jugadas desde que la propia pareja de damas de Khotenashvili había permanecido impotente cerca del rey blanco-.
Las negras no podían dar jaque y mate en la primera fila, ya que la dama en c6 estaba preparada para defenderse desde g1. Ahora las blancas simplemente tienen una torre de ventaja. Alexandra Kosteniuk sólo necesitó tres movimientos más para forzar la renuncia de su oponente.
Pero la partida en sí no fue tan sencilla como la secuencia final. Kosteniuk había jugado mal en una posición superiro en varias ocasiones. El conocido autor y entrenador Robert Ris ha analizado todos los detalles y comparte sus conclusiones en un vídeo publicado en su canal en YouTube.
