30/03/2017 – En la primera de las dos partidas más importantes de la séptima ronda, Wang Hao venció a Baskeran Adhiban. Con ello se suma al liderato del ucraniano Martyn Kraftsiv (ambos tienen 6 puntos), que había firmado tablas con el argentino Sandro Mareco. Por detrás de Wang Hao y Adhiban va un grupo de 12 jugadores con medio punto menos, encabezado por el favorito del torneo, Radoslaw Wojtaszek.

Se disputa entre el 23 y el 31 de marzo por sistema suizo, a 9 rondas. El control de tiempo es de 90 minutos con 30 segundos de incremento por movimiento. El lugar del juego es el Sharjah Chess & Culture Club (Sharjah Hall) en la ciudad de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos. Entre los participantes están Radoslaw Wojtazek, Yuriy Kryvoruchko y también varios fuertes jugadores latinos, como David Antón, Eduardo Iturrizaga y Sandro Mareco.
