Una batalla psicológica
El ajedrez, al ser un deporte practicado por personas humanas, incluye aspectos tanto técnicos como psicológicos. Como tarde cuando un jugador haya alcanzado una fuerza técnica razonable, el factor psicológico también juega un papel importante.
La toma de decisiones en si misma no es tan difícil cuando estamos en medio de la faena y tenemos que decidir si jugamos una cosa u otra. Cuando estamos en acción procuramos realizar el mejor movimiento y ya está. Los momentos más complicados suelen ser aquellos cuando aún no haya estallado la batalla directa de verdad. Durante esta fase de la "calma antes de la tempestad" a veces puede ser difícil saber si debemos esperar un momento más a entrar en acción o si ya ha llegado el momento. Lo que suelen hacer los jugadores fuertes y experimentados entonces es procurar a incitar al oponente menos fuerte a precipitarse con aquel movimiento que vaya a romper el equilibro.
Eso me ocurrió al analizar algunas de las partidas que Magnus Carlsen jugó en la recien terminada FTX Crypto Cup.
Claro, Magnus es el mejor jugador del mundo. Y quizá incluso sea el mejor jugador de la historia. Pero estaba en una forma un poco floja (aunque al final de todo ganó el torneo, no obstante).
Tiene que ser agotador jugar tantas partidas rápidas en algo más de una semana. Así que incluso Carlsen estuvo condenado a perder algunas partidas. Desde luego, ha sido muy instructivo su juego. Hay dos partidas que especialmente interesantes.
