La mayoría de los jugadores tenían ganas de luchar, pero las oportunidades se desperdiciaron a diestro y siniestro. Fabiano Caruana metió la pata en la apertura y se arriesgó a perder contra Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ambos en la foto). A Hikaru Nakamura le hicieron falta dos errores de Ivan Cheparinov para ganar una posición técnicamente ganadora. Parham Maghsoodloo venció a Alexey Sarana para unirse a los otros cinco jugadores que comparten el mando con 6,5 puntos. La mayoría de los jugadores estaban con ganas de luchar, pero en algunos casos justamente eso tuvo como consecuencia que se perdieran oportunidades. Fabiano Caruana empleó una nueva idea en la Giuco Piano, pero tras estropear su preparación, estaba en serio peligro en su partida con Bogdan-Daniel Deac. Por suerte para él, su rival se vio tentado por un peón, lo que permitió a Caruana simplificar y mantener las tablas.
Hikaru Nakamura hizo gala de una técnica imprecisa y sólo venció a Ivan Cheparinov porque éste le dio dos oportunidades para ello. Y eso a pesar de que podría haber sido una victoria técnica sin problemas para el estadounidense, Nakamura.

Vidit Santosh Gujrathi y Andrei Esipenko actuaron con cautela y la partida terminó en tablas sin demasiada emoción. Algo similar ocurrió en la partida entre Vladimir Fedoseev y Arjun Erigaisi.
Parham Maghsoodloo ganó una partida crucial contra Alexey Sarana con blancas en la Nimzoindia y se apuntó el grupo de líderes.
Hay seis jugadores que encabezan conjuntamente con 6,5/9 puntos: Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, Andrey Esipenko, Bogdan-Daniel Deac y Parham Maghsoodloo.
