Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, quien prefiere que la llamen Sara Jade, es de momento la más brillante de los 252 jugadores del torneo principal del Festival de Gibraltar. La iraní, de 21 años, 94ª en la lista inicial, ganó también en la tercera ronda a un gran maestro, el alemán Alexander Donchenko, y comparte el grupo de cabeza con uno de los favoritos, el checo David Navara (6º cabeza de serie) y tres líderes inesperados: el rumano Deac (37), el húngaro Papp (38º y el kazajo Jumayábev (35º).
Un vistazo rápido a la lista de resultados de la tercera jornada puede resultar engañoso si solo se mira la parte de arriba, porque en las doce primeras mesas se firmaron once empates y una sola victoria, la de Navara, quien con un juego espléndido se impuso al israelí Víctor Mijalevski. Pero si se sigue leyendo, en los catorce tableros siguientes no hubo ningún empate. Además, debe tenerse en cuenta que en Gibraltar está prohibido firmar empates (salvo por triple repetición de posiciones) antes de la jugada, lo que produce un índice de combatividad aún mayor que en la mayoría de los torneos abiertos.
La victoria de Jade sobre Donchenko fue impecable, demostrando un conocimiento muy profundo de los entresijos de la Defensa Indo-Benoni para romperla con una violenta ruptura central en el momento adecuado. Los resultados de la iraní en las últimas semanas (dos medallas de plata y una de oro en el Mundial de Rápidas de San Petersburgo, y una victoria sobre la excampeona del mundo Kosteniuk en la Liga Alemana) indican claramente que su valor real es bastante superior a los 2.469 de su Elo actual.
Entre los perseguidores de los líderes, con 2,5 puntos, hay cinco de habla hispana: el argentino Peralta, el venezolano Iturrizaga, el estadounidense (de origen costarricense) Alejandro Ramírez y los españoles Renier Vázquez y Miguel Santos.
