13/06/2023 – La primera jornada de la fase clasificatoria regional de Europa y África comenzó con un duelo de alto nivel entre el número uno de Gran Bretaña, Michael Adams, y el mejor jugador polaco, Jan-Krzysztof Duda. Tras varios altibajos, Duda se impuso con un poco de suerte. En la primera partida del duelo Duda vs. Adams, Adams jugó con blancas, pero Duda empató sin dificultades. En la segunda partida, Duda ganó material durante el medio juego, pero luego cometió un error en un final igualado cuando sólo le quedaban unos pocos segundos en el reloj. Sin embargo, Adams devolvió el favor y le permitió a Duda llevarse la victoria.

En la primera partida del duelo Alexander Donchenko vs. Vincent Keymer, parecía que le iba bien a Donchenko jugando una defensa India de Rey con las piezas negras. Pero entonces cometió un error y tuvo que ceder dos caballos por una torre.

En la segunda partida, Donchenko logró construir un fuerte ataque contra el rey de Keymer, pero luego perdió la partida por problemas de tiempo.
