Los Campeonatos del Mundo de Blitz son abiertos suizos (21 rondas en el abierto y 17 rondas en el femenino) con un control de tiempo de 3 minutos para toda la partida, más un incremento de 2 segundos a partir de la primera jugada. Un empate por el primer puesto se decidirá mediante dos partidas rápidas 3+2. Si persiste el empate, se jugarán más partidas 3+2 hasta encontrar un ganador.
