Larissa Volpert, en sus tiempos profesora de Filología y maestra de ajedrez, falleció en Nueva York el 1 de octubre de 2017 a la edad de 91 años. Un fragmento de una revista de ajedrez soviética de 1961 permite un vistazo a uno de sus triunfos más grandes. Se trata de un final de torre que es tan elegante que podría ser un auténtico problema de ajedrez compuesto por un experto. ¿Sería el resto de la partida igual de inspiradora?
06/03/2017 – El año pasado, el GM indio Abhijeet Gupta nos mostró un estudio en el que un caballo defendía todo un reino. Los caballos pueden ser muy poderosos en la situación adecuada, pero resultan igual de sorprendentes cuando se trata del dominar piezas, construir fortalezas, hacer horquillas al rey y la dama o incluso ayudando a dar y asestando el mate de la coz. 05/02/2017 – En nuestro estudio anterior, vimos lo fuertes que son los peones. El tema se amplía ahora con tres posiciones, dos de partidas y un estudio de dos prolíficos compositores de ajedrez de Georgia. En el estudio, a las blancas les gustaría que su peón pudiera retroceder.
