En lugar del habitual cerrado a una vuelta con diez participantes, el evento será un cerrado a doble vuelta con seis jugadores. Los organizadores han decidido utilizar el innovador formato que presentaron el año pasado, con partidas de Armagedón siguiendo a cada partida que termine en tablas.
Sin embargo, se han hecho un par de modificaciones al reglamento. A diferencia del año pasado, en el que cada jugador recibía dos horas para toda la partida sin incrementos, en la edición de este año se utilizará un incremento de 10 segundos después de la jugada 40. El sistema de puntuación también ha sido alterado:

En el Armagedón, las negras tienen 7 minutos contra los 10 minutos de las blancas, con un incremento de 1 segundo por movimiento a partir de la jugada 41. Las tablas favorecen al jugador que lleva las piezas negras.
