Magnus Carlsen vs Hikaru Nakamura ½
94 jugadas y 6 horas después de haber empezado a jugar resultó que la ventaja del campeón mundial resultó esteril. Parece que Nakamura empieza a encontrale el quid a Carlsen, a quien tenía por bestia negra.

Fabiano Caruana vs Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ½
El francés echó mano de su predilecta Najdorf. Caruana no rehuyó el reto y planteó una novedad. Maxime derivó hacia aguas más tranquilas. La ventaja de Caruana se diluyó cuando simplificó en un final de peones, con uno de ventaja, pero imposible de convertir en victoria.

Los rusos no se metieron en demasiadas complicaciones. En un mediojuego de alfiles de colores opuestos, se fueron produciendo cambios y simplificaciones hasta las tabla. El peón blanco de b7 ya no podía avanzar más.

Karjakin escogió el sistema Londres, que se usa para intentar evitar la teoría. Las blancas no sacaron ventaja y las negras igualaron con relativa facilidad, con juego activo. Se acordaron tablas cuando se cambiaron todas las piezas excepto los caballos.
