08/08/2018 – La 25ta edición del Festival de Ajedrez de Abu Dabi arrancó esta semana en el Hotel Dusit Thani. El evento aniversario de este año es especialmente fuerte, pues incluye a cinco grandes maestros con un rating superior a 2700. Entre ellos se encuentra el candidato presidencial de la FIDE Nigel Short, quien vuelve a los tableros en medio de una ardua campaña.

El festival de ajedrez de Abu Dabi cumple 25 años
El Festival de Ajedrez de Abu Dabi 2018 se está llevando a cabo en el Hotel Dusit Thani de la ciudad emiratí. El torneo es un suizo a 9 rondas con un control de tiempo de 90 minutos por jugador más 30 segundos de incremento desde el primer movimiento.
Además del evento principal, el festival incluye un torneo abierto para jugadores con un rating inferior a 2100 (desde el 1 de julio de 2017), un torneo para juveniles reservado para jugadores menores a 16 años, un torneo de blitz y mucho más.
Al momento de celebrar sus bodas de plata, el evento principal de este año ha invitado a jugadores de primer nivel. Más de cien jugadores titulados de más de 25 países confirmaron su participación este año.
En comparación con el año pasado, cuando Nigel Short fue el primer rankeado del evento con un rating de 2688, este año el torneo cuenta con cinco grandes maestros con un rating superior a 2700. La nómina incluye nombres conocidos como Richard Rapport, Le Quang Liem, Alexander Morozevich, Ivan Cheparinov, mientras que Nigel Short, que actualmente está enfocado en la carrera por conseguir la presidencia de la FIDE, también ha regresado.

Además, muchos jóvenes talentos tratarán de robar puntos a los favoritos. El año pasado, vimos a los dos primeros rankeados sólo conseguir empates en la primera ronda.
