En la edición de este año del europeo por equipos participarán 35 federaciones. En la sección absoluta se han inscrito 30 equipos. Islandia participa con dos equipos, el equipo A y el de "Leyendas de Islandia" cuyos integrantes serán Helgi Olafsson, Johann Hjartarson, Jon Arnason, Margeir Petursson y Friðrik Olafsson. Las "leyendas" no tienen mucha diferencia en sus valoraciones Elo con el equipo A. Quien sabe si al final hasta se podrían imponer a sus jóvenes compatriotas.
El equipo favorito es Rusia (tiene una valoración Elo media de 2743 puntos) y esto a pesar de que Kramnik no vaya a participar. El segundo favorito es Ucrania (2725), seguido por Azerbaiyán (2707), Francia (2705) e Inglaterra (2703). Participarán también Israel y Bulgaría.
El equipo español figura en el puesto 14 de los favoritos.
