14/04/2017 – Entre el 15 y el 22 de abril se disputará el Grenke Chess Classic. con un paréntesis en 2015, será la IV edición del torneo. Participará el Campeón del Mundo, Magnus Carlsen, que ya ganó el torneo hace dos años. Se verá las caras con Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian, Arkadij Naiditsch, Matthias Blübaum y Georg Meier. Las 3 primeras rondas se disputarán en la misma sala que el Abierto Grenke, en Karlsruhe. Las 4 rondas restantes serán en Baden-Baden. El torneo de las estrellas en Karlsruhe y Baden-Baden
Los competidores más peligrosos de Magnus Carlsen, por fuerza de juego, son Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave y Levon Aronian. Otro jugador peligroso es Arkadij Naiditsch. Hace dos años, el gran maestro que ahora ya no juega bajo bandera alemana sino de Azerbaiyán, se las arregló muy bien contra el Campeón del Mundo. En una épica recta final, Naiditsch llegó hasta el duelo de desempate contra Magnus Carlsen, que terminó asegurando el triunfo en la partida a todo o nada.
Los organizadores del torneo se alegran además de la participación de la jugadora más fuerte del mundo, la china Hou Yifan.

Del 15 al 17 de abril: las rondas 1 a 3 en la sala Selva Negra (Schwarzwaldhalle) en Karlsruhe (en paralelo con las ronda de la tarde del torneo abierto)
El 18 de abril es día de descanso para realizar el traslado a Baden-Baden
Del 19 al 22 de abril: las rondas 4 a 7 en la Event-Akademie de Baden-Baden
Como peculiaridad, las primeras 3 rondas del Grenke Chess Classic se disputarán en paralelo con el Abierto GRENKE, en Karlsruhe. La idea es que así los jugadores aficionados puedan sentirse estimulados al jugar en la misma sala que Magnus Carlsen y el resto de estrellas. Tras finalizar el torneo abierto, las estrellas se mudarán a Baden-Baden.
El Abierto Grenke 2017 se disputará entre el 13 y el 17 de abril en Karlsruhe. Es uno de los torneos más grandes y más fuertes en el mundo. Dos meses antes del comienzo ya se habían inscrito 90 jugadores titulados. De momento, los favoritos según sus valoraciones Elo son Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Nikita Vitiugov y Richard Rapport.
