Memorial Keres 2016 en Talin

Talin

El Memorial Keres fue un torneo abierto a once rondas en la modalidad de ajedrez rápido, organizado por la ACP, la Federación Estonia de Ajedrez y la Asociación Kalev Sports. El control de tiempo era de 15 minutos por partida y jugador, más 10 segundos de incremento por movimiento.

La partida crucial para Igor Kovalenko llegó en la décima ronda. Jugó con blancas contra el principal favorito, Peter Svidler. Kovalenko ganó y se presentó a la última ronda como líder en solitario. En ella optó por el camino seguro y empató rápidamente con Boris Gelfand. La estrategia funcionó porque los más cercanos perseguidores de no lograron ganar sus respectivas partidas. Con medio punto de desventaja se clasificaron David Howell (Inglaterra), Boris Gelfand (Israel) y Surya Shekhar Ganguly (India). Howell, quien había encabezado la clasifciación tras la segunda jornada ocupó el segundo puesto. Gelfand quedó tercero (Según las valoraciones de desempate)
